Desk-Based Assessment
12th–16th century
Medieval Priory Site, Northern England
A comprehensive desk-based assessment of a scheduled Augustinian priory site ahead of proposed consolidation works.
The project involved a systematic review of all available cartographic, documentary, and archaeological evidence for the priory and its precinct. Sources consulted included monastic cartularies, post-Dissolution surveys, tithe maps, and the records of previous archaeological investigations. The assessment established the significance of below-ground remains and informed a programme of targeted evaluation.
Archival Research
17th–19th century
Ecclesiastical Parish Records, South Wales
Targeted archival research into the documentary history of a rural parish church and its associated glebe lands.
Research drew on diocesan records, faculty papers, churchwardens' accounts, and estate correspondence to reconstruct the building history of the church and the management of its lands across three centuries. Findings contributed to a successful Heritage Lottery Fund application for the repair and interpretation of the building.
Heritage Statement
18th–19th century
Listed Farmhouse and Agricultural Complex, Scotland
A heritage statement prepared in support of a planning application for the sympathetic conversion of a Category B listed farmstead.
The statement assessed the significance of the farmhouse, steading, and associated structures against the criteria of Historic Environment Scotland policy. Research included analysis of estate plans, agricultural improvement records, and building fabric evidence. The statement successfully supported the application and informed the design approach of the conversion.
Historical Report
12th–13th century
Crusader-Period Fortifications, Israel
A research report on the architectural development and strategic context of a Crusader castle in the Levant.
The report examined the construction phases, garrison history, and eventual abandonment of the site through a combination of published excavation reports, Arabic and Latin chronicle sources, and comparative architectural analysis. Produced for an academic research programme, the report contributed to a broader study of Crusader military architecture in the region.
Interpretive Writing
12th–16th century
Monastic Landscape Interpretation, Borders Region
Interpretive content for a heritage trail connecting the remains of three Cistercian monasteries in the Scottish Borders.
The project involved the development of an interpretive framework and the production of panel text, trail guide content, and supporting educational materials. Content was written for a general audience and reviewed for accuracy by the client's archaeological advisors. The trail has since been adopted as part of a regional heritage tourism initiative.
